Jesus Riding on the Colt - Luke 19:35

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus, “went before, ascending up to Jerusalem. And it came to pass, when he was come near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying, Go you into the village over against you; in the which at your entering you shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. And if any man ask you, Why do you loose him? thus shall you say unto him, Because the Lord has need of him. And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them. And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose you the colt? And they said, The Lord has need of him, and in chapter nineteen and verse thirty-five of his book Luke shared how Jesus' two disciples, “brought him to Jesus” where we read:

And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.

The verse reads,And they brought him to Jesus: Luke began with the words, “and they” or “and Jesus' two disciples” “brought him to Jesus” which means “lead and carried the young donkey to the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”. Luke shared how Jesus' “two disciples” brought the “colt” to Jesus just as He instructed them.

The verse continues, and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.Luke added the words, “and they cast their garments” or “and the disciples threw and scattered their clothes, mantles and tunics” “upon the colt” which means “on the young donkey”, “and they set Jesus thereon” or “and the disciples put, placed and established the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation upon the colt”. Luke shared how Jesus' “disciples” began to put their clothing upon the “young donkey”, and they “put” Jesus on it.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus' disciples followed every instruction He gave. They brought the “young donkey” to Jesus, put their “clothing” upon it and put Jesus on it. This was to be the beginning of the fulfillment of the scripture found in Zechariah chapter nine and verse nine that reads, Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, your King comes unto you: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an donkey, and upon a colt the foal of an donkey.” Jesus, the Messiah and Christ of God, was to ride upon this “young donkey” to show Himself to be the “Savior” of the world, and all who yield their lives to Him will be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life from God. May all who consider these words submit to the One who comes “lowly, and riding upon a donkey”.

Next time Luke shares, “as he went, they spread their clothes in the way”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
