Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus, “went before, ascending up to Jerusalem. And it came to pass, when he was come near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying, Go you into the village over against you; in the which at your entering you shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him here. And if any man ask you, Why do you loose him? thus shall you say unto him, Because the Lord has need of him. And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them. And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose you the colt?”, and in chapter nineteen and verse thirty-four of his book Luke shared how Jesus' two disciples responded, “the Lord has need of him” where we read:
And they said, The Lord has need of him.
The verse reads, “And they said, ...” Luke began with the words, “and they” or “and the two disciples” “said” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed”. Luke shared how Jesus' “two disciples” responded to the owners' question with the following words.
The verse goes on to say, “... The Lord has need of him.” Luke continued with the words, “The Lord” or “the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title for God the Messiah” “has need of him” which means “has duty and business with the young donkey”. Luke shared how Jesus' “two disciples” told the owners that “the Master or Messiah” has “duty and business” with the young donkey.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' “two disciples” responded to the owners of the “young donkey” with the words He gave to them. They told the owners, “the Lord” needed use of the “colt”, and thereby obeyed and fulfilled what Jesus told them to do. Sometimes the tasks God assigns to people is very simple, and those who hears the instruction of God should simply “obey” Him. God loves people, and when they submit themselves to His Son Jesus, they are complying with everything that is needed to receive forgiveness of their sins and everlasting life with God. Let all who read these words yield to the Lord Jesus.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus' two disciples, “brought him to Jesus”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
