Why Loose You the Colt? - Luke 19:33

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus, “went before, ascending up to Jerusalem. And it came to pass, when he was come near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying, Go you into the village over against you; in the which at your entering you shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him here. And if any man ask you, Why do you loose him? thus shall you say unto him, Because the Lord has need of him. And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them, and in chapter nineteen and verse thirty-three of his book Luke shared when Jesus' two disciples, “were loosing the colt, the owners … said … Why loose you the colt?” where we read:

And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose you the colt?

The verse reads,And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, ... Luke began with the words, “and as they were loosing the colt” or “and while and during the time when the two disciples were untying, unfastening and setting free the young donkey”, “the owners thereof” which means “the possessors and masters of the young donkey” “said unto them” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed to the two disciples”. Luke shared when the “two disciples” began to “set free” the “colt”, the ones who “possessed” the young donkey asked them the following question.

The verse continues, ... Why loose you the colt?Luke added the words, “why loose you” or “for what reason and cause are you two disciples untying, unfastening and setting free” “the colt” which means “the young donkey”? Luke shared how the “possessors” of the “young donkey” asked Jesus' “two disciples” why they were setting him free.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus knew exactly what would happen when His “two disciples” found the “young donkey” and were questioned by the “owners”. Jesus gave them the response even before they were asked. This reveals the omniscience or all knowing character of God who knows in advance everything that shall be. Jesus knew people who sin are separated from God, and without a “Savior”, they would die in their sins and be forever apart from Him. This “colt” was used to fulfill the scriptures concerning the Messiah, and because Jesus knew in advance what He would do with the young donkey, He gave His “two disciples” the words to respond to the owners. Those who examine these detailed events and words of Jesus will discover God's intentional plan to be their “Savior” so they may forever live with Him.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus' two disciples answered, “the Lord has need of him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
