The apostle John wrote how the Jews, “sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ comes, will he do more miracles than these which this man has done? Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. You shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, there you cannot come. Then said the Jews among themselves, Where will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?”, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-six of his book, John shared how the Jews ask, “What manner of saying is this that he said?” where we read:
What manner of saying is this that he said, You shall seek me, and shall not find me:
and where I am, there you cannot come?
The verse reads, “What manner of saying is this that he said, You shall seek me, and shall not find me:” John began with the words, “What manner of saying is this” or “what kind of utterance, declaration, decree and mandate is the one Jesus made” “that he said” which means “that Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “you shall seek me” or “you, Jewish people, will look for, crave, demand and require me, Jesus”, “and shall not find me” which means “and will be unable to discover where Jesus is”. John shared how the “Jewish people”, particularly the religious leaders known as Pharisees, wondered what Jesus meant by saying they would “look for” Him but be unable to discover where He is located.
The verse continues, “and where I am, there you cannot come?” John added the words, “and where I am” which means “and the place and location I, Jesus, am present, exist and happen”, “there you cannot come” or “in that place and location you, Jewish people, are unable to arise, appear and come forth”? John shared how the “Jewish people” continued to wonder about Jesus' statement about not being able to go to the place or location where Jesus would be.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how the “Jewish people” were perplexed at Jesus' statement about them “looking for” Him but being incapable of finding where He is located, and they wondered what place Jesus would be going that they were not permitted to “appear”. Jesus was to return to His Father in Heaven after He gave His life on the cross for the sins of the world and was raised three days later from the grave. Jesus would be in a place the “Jewish people and religious leaders” would not be permitted to come because they did not believe in Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to “save” people from their sins, and when they humble themselves before Him, He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and begin a personal relationship with them. This was the place where the “Jewish unbelievers” would not be able to come, but this place is available to everyone who yield their life to Him.
Next time John shares how Jesus cries out, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
