The apostle John wrote how the Jews, “sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ comes, will he do more miracles than these which this man has done? The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. You shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, there you cannot come”, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-five of his book, John shared how the Jews ask, “where will he go, that we shall not find him?” where we read:
Then said the Jews among themselves, Where will he go, that we shall not find him?
will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
The verse reads, “Then said the Jews among themselves, Where will he go, that we shall not find him?” John began with the words, “Then said the Jews” or “at that time uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked the people of the Jewish nation particularly the religious leaders” “among themselves” which means “with and by their own selves”, “where will he go” or “to what place or location will Jesus depart and leave”, “that we shall not find him” which means “so we, the religious leaders, be incapable and unable to discover and learn where He is”? John shared how the religious leaders known as the “Pharisees” wondered to what place Jesus could depart that they would be unable to “find” him.
The verse goes on to say, “will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?” John continued with words, “will he go” which means “will Jesus depart and leave” “unto the dispersed” or “to the people who are scattered abroad to foreign nations” “among the Gentiles” which means “with the nations who are not Jews that made the language, customs, and learning of the Greeks their own”, “and teach the Gentiles” or “and instruct, hold discourses with, instill doctrine in and impart instruction to the people within the nations who are not Jews that made the language, customs, and learning of the Greeks their own”? John shared how the “religious leaders” wondered if Jesus would “depart” to be with the non-Jewish people who were “scattered” among the “Gentile” nations.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how these “religious leaders” were attempting to understand how Jesus could leave them and go to a place where they would not find Him. They decided that He might go to the “Gentile people” where the “Pharisees” and “religious leaders” would be less inclined to look. Jesus came to “save” all people, and anyone, Jew or Gentile, who puts their faith and trust in Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. While these “Pharisees” were attempting to discover where Jesus would go and they be unable to find Him, those who are wise simply believed in Him and gained a personal relationship with God. Those who are wise will do the same today and allow Jesus to be their “Savior and Lord” whom He came to be.
Next time John shares how the Jews ask, “what manner of saying is this”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
