In Psalms chapter thirty one David said to Jehovah, “Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: my eye is consumed with grief, yes, my soul and my belly”, and in chapter thirty one and verse ten of Psalms David said, “my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing”, where we read,
For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing:
my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones are consumed.
The verse begins, “For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing:” David began with the words, “For my life” which means “because, since and on account that my, David's, living, sustenance and maintenance” “is spent” or “exists as complete, finished and determined” “with grief” which means “by way of sorrow, affliction and anguish”, “and my years” or “and my, David's, year long measure of time” “with sighing” which means “with groaning, physical distress and mourning”. David declared his living to be filled with sorrow and anguish, and the years of time he lived with complete with groaning and mourning.
The verse goes on to say, “my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones are consumed.” David continued with the words, “my strength fails” or “my, David's, power, might and human ability and force stumbles, staggers and totters” “because of my iniquity” which means “on account of my, David's, perversity, depravity and guilt”, “and my bones are consumed” or “and my, David's, physical bones exist as wasted away”. David wrote how his physical might and human ability stumbled and tottered, on account of his perversity and guilt. His physical “bones” were also wasted away because of his “grief”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see why David wanted Jehovah God to have “mercy” upon him. David was convicted by his own “perversity”, and without Jehovah God being gracious to him, his “ability” would completely fail and his physical structure would be wasted away. Sin has that affect upon people, and when we “sin”, our consciences are troubled within, and we desire to be relieved of our guilt. The human race was given the sacrifice of Jesus upon the cross who paid the penalty for our sins. Anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be set free from their “guilt”, strengthened in their weakness and inability and healed within their inner soul. Praise be unto God for His provision of mercy and grace through His Son Jesus who provided “salvation” and liberation to all who believe.
Next time David says, “I was a reproach among all my enemies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
