Carried Away as With a Flood - Psalms 90:5

In Psalms ninety Moses said to Jehovah God, “a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night”, and in chapter ninety and verse five of Psalms Moses said, “you carry them away as with a flood” where we read,

You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep:

in the morning they are like grass which grows up.

The verse begins, You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: Moses began with the words, “you carry them away” or “you, Jehovah God, pour out and transport the people far off” “as with a flood” which means “in similar manner and likeness a torrent of water”; “they are as a sleep” or “they, the people exist like people who are sleeping and dreaming”. Moses said Jehovah God caused the people to be swept away like a flooding torrent, and they were like people who were sleeping and dreaming.

The verse continues, “in the morning they are like grass which grows up. Moses added the words, “in the morning” or “within the dawn, break of day and the coming of daylight” “they are like grass” which means “the people exist similar in in likeness to herbage, leeks or hay” “which grows up” or “that passes on or away quickly”. Moses said the people are similar to the break of day and herbage that quickly passes away.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Moses said Jehovah God transported the people away like a torrent of water, and they were like those who are sleeping and dreaming. The people had abandoned their relationship with God, (See Numbers 14) and God allowed the people to suffer because of their choices. God wants people to choose to have a personal intimate relationship with Him, and He proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us from the judgment of God who knows our temporary nature on earth.

Next time Moses says, “in the morning it flourishes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
