A Strong Man Keeping His Palace - Luke 11:21

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus, “was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. But some of them said, He casts out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falls. If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because you say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-one of his book Luke shared how Jesus refers to, “when a strong man keeps his palace” where we read:

When a strong man armed keeps his palace, his goods are in peace:

The verse reads, “When a strong man armed keeps his palace, ...” Luke began with the words, “when a strong man armed” or “at the time and moment a male human being who is mighty, forcible, firm and sure fully equipped with armor” “keeps his palace” which means “guards, watches and protects his own house, court or mansion”. Luke shared how a “powerful” man equipped with “armor” protects and guards his own home.

The verse continues, “... his goods are in peace:” Luke added the words, “his goods” or “the strong man's possessions, wealth and property” “are in peace” which means “exist in calmness and tranquility”. Luke shared how the “strong man's” possessions and property are “calm” and “tranquil”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus referred to a man who is “powerfully equipped” with armor to protect his home. Because he is strongly prepared and more powerful than any perpetrator, the man was able to keep his home in a “calm” state. God is the ultimate “protector”, and no outer force is able to contend with Him. He sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior” of the world, and those who believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will have access the most powerful One to keep them in a state of “calm and tranquility”.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus refers to what happens, “when a stronger than he shall come upon him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
