Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus, “was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. But some of them said, He casts out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falls. If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because you say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub”, and in chapter eleven and verse nineteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus asked, “if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out?” where we read:
And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out?
therefore shall they be your judges.
The verse reads, “And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out?” Luke began with the words, “and if I” or “and whether I, Jesus” “by Beelzebub” which means “by the way, means and power of Beelzebub which means lord of the house or flies which is a name of Satan who is the prince of evil spirits” “cast out devils” or “drives out, expels and banishes wicked and evil ones who are messengers and ministers of the devil”, “by whom do your sons” which means “through what person or spirit do the progeny and offspring of the one accusing Jesus” “cast them out” or “drive out, expel and banish wicked and evil ones who are messengers and ministers of the devil”? Luke shared how Jesus questioned the people who accused Him of “casting out devils by Beelzebub” as to who their “male offspring” “cast out devils”.
The verse continues, “therefore shall they be your judges.” Luke added the word, “therefore” or “then, wherefore, consequently and these things being so” “shall they be your judges” or “the sons of the people who said Jesus cast out devils by Beelzebub would be their arbiters, leaders and rulers”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “male children” of His accusers would be their “arbiters and rulers”.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus addressed His accusers once again by questioning by whom their “sons” “cast out demons”. Jesus had power over all “evil spirits”, and because He came to defeat “Satan's” influence over people, those who believe and trust in Him shall be “saved” from the penalty of sin and enjoy a relationship with the One who is able to control all “spirits” that come against them.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
