The beloved physician Luke wrote when Jesus, “was come near unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging. And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passes by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, you Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, You Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, saying, What will you that I shall do unto you? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive your sight: your faith has saved you. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God”, and in chapter nineteen and verse one of his book Luke wrote how, “Jesus entered and passed through Jericho” where we read:
And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
The verse reads, “And Jesus entered ...” Luke began with the words, “and Jesus” or “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “entered” which means “made entrance to and came into” the following city. Luke shared how Jesus “made entrance” into another city.
The verse continues, “... and passed through Jericho.” Luke added the words, “and passed through” or “and traveled and journey through the city of” “Jericho” which means “place of fragrance and was a noted city which was abounding in balsam, honey, cyprus, myrobalanus, roses and other fragrant products”. Luke shared how Jesus traveled through the city of Jericho which was known for it's fragrant smells.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see Jesus on the move again. This time He was traveling through the city of Jericho. We shall discover what happens in this area in the next verses, but for now let us be aware that Jesus desired people from all over to be within the Kingdom of God. God wants a personal relationship with people all over the world, “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (See John 3:16), and anyone who will submit to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life with God. God is everywhere, and everywhere there are people, He is willing to save them.
Next time Luke shares about, “a man named Zacchaeus”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
