Make Us Glad When Afflicted - Psalms 90:15

In Psalms ninety Moses asked of Jehovah God, “Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent you concerning your servants. O satisfy us early with your mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days”, and in chapter ninety and verse fifteen of Psalms Moses said, “make us glad according to the days wherein you have afflicted us” where we read,

Make us glad according to the days wherein you have afflicted us,

and the years wherein we have seen evil.

The verse begins, Make us glad according to the days wherein you have afflicted us, ... Moses began with the words, “Make us glad” or “cause us, Moses and the people with him, to rejoice, be gladdened and exulted” “according to the days” which means “in reference to the time period” “wherein you have afflicted us” or “in which you, Jehovah God, have occupied, busied, humbled, depressed and humiliated us, Moses and the people with him”. Moses called upon Jehovah God to cause him and the people with him to rejoice for the time that He humbled them.

The verse goes on to say, “... and the years wherein we have seen evil.” Moses continued with the words, “and the years” or “and the division and measure of time of years” “wherein we have seen evil” which means “in which we, Moses and the people with him, have observed, looked at, inspected, perceived and considered bad, malignancy, unpleasantness, unkindness and wickedness”. Moses added that he wanted Jehovah God to cause him and the people with him to rejoice over the “years” they had observed unpleasantness and wickedness.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Moses wanted Jehovah God to cause him and the people with him to be exulted and gladdened over the humbling they experienced and the “years” they had to observe wickedness. We can imagine how difficult it was for Moses and the people with him, and we may be able to relate as we have been humbled and seen “evil”. God knew these things would be a part of our lives, so He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. He invites us to receive Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, and He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to “rejoice” even when we are “afflicted” or have to observe wickedness in this world.

Next time Moses says, “let your work appear unto your servants”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
