Ten Strings and a Psaltery - Psalms 92:3

In Psalms ninety-two the Psalmist said, It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto your name, O most High, to show forth your lovingkindness in the morning, and your faithfulness every night”, and in chapter ninety-two and verse three of Psalms the Psalmist shared about worshiping God with, “an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery” where we read,

Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.

The verse begins, Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; The Psalmist began with the words, “upon an instrument” or “on a musical harp” “of ten strings” which means “made with ten strings or a decachord”, “and upon the psaltery” or “and on skin-bag, jar, pitcher, lute or guitar”. The Psalmist said it is good to give praise and honor to Jehovah God by the use of a decachord or skin-bag, pitcher, lute or guitar.

The verse goes on to say, upon the harp with a solemn sound. The Psalmist continued with the words, “upon the harp” or “by the use of a root meaning of twang or lyre” “with a solemn sound” which means “by the use of a meditation, resounding music, musing or plotting”. The Psalmist included using a lyre to make resounding music of meditation to worship Jehovah God.

When think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist included musical instruments in the worship of Jehovah God. A “decachord” or ten stringed instrument, a lute, skin-bag, guitar and twang of the lyre was to be employed to make resounding music unto God. God should be worshiped, and He deserves all our praise. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to give Him praise, worship, adoration, honor and glory with voices and musical instruments for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “you, LORD, have made me glad through your work”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
