Treading Upon the Lion and the Adder - Psalms 91:13

In Psalms ninety-one the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone”, and in chapter ninety-one and verse thirteen the Psalmist says, “you shall tread upon the lion and the adder” where we read,

You shall tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shall you trample under feet.

The verse begins, You shall tread upon the lion and adder: The Psalmist began with the words, “you shall tread” or “you, people who dwell in the secret place of the most High, will march and walk” “upon the lion” which means “on the animal known as a fierce lion which probably means the roar” “and adder” or “and venomous serpent such as a cobra or viper”. The Psalmist said the people who dwell in the secret place of the most High and abide under the shadow of the Almighty would march over the roaring and fierce lion and the venomous serpent.

The verse goes on to say,the young lion and the dragon shall you trample under feet. The Psalmist continued with the words, “the young lion” or “the youthful lion such as the ones covered with a mane”, “and the dragon” which means “and the sea or river monster or venomous snake” “shall you trample under feet” or “will you stomp, tread upon and oppress beneath your, the people who dwell in the secret place of the most High's, physical feet”. The Psalmist said the people who dwell in the secret place of the most High would stomp and tread upon the youthful fierce lion with a mane and the river monster or venomous snake.

When meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said the people who dwell in the secret place of the most High and abide under the shadow of the Almighty shall stomp upon the fierce lion, the youthful lion and the river monster or venomous snake. In other words, God would give them power over forces that were normally stronger than they were. God desires to provide and protect every person who surrenders to His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the power, strength, might and ability to “tread upon” “lions, adders, young lions and dragons” as they come into our lives.

Next time the Psalmist says, “because he has set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
