Your Former Lovingkindnesses - Psalms 89:49

In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist asked, “What man is he that lives, and shall not see death shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse forty-nine of Psalms Ethan asked Jehovah God, “Lord, where are your former lovingkindnesses?” where we read,

Lord, where are your former lovingkindnesses, which you swore unto David in your truth?

The verse begins, Lord, where are your former lovingkindnesses, ... Ethan began with the word, “Lord” or “Adonay or reverent master”, “where are your former lovingkindnesses” which means “from what place exist your, Jehovah God's, first, primary, beforetime and foremost goodness, kindness and faithfulness”? Ethan asked Adonay, the reverent master Jehovah God, where His primary and foremost goodness and kindness went.

The verse continues, which you swore unto David in your truth? Ethan added the words, “which you swore” or “that you, Jehovah God, adjured, took an oath and charged straitly” “unto David” which means “to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel” “in your truth” or “within your, Jehovah God's, firmness, fidelity, steadfastness and steadiness”? Ethan continued to question Jehovah God concerning His goodness and kindness promised and charged according to His firmness and steadfastness.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Ethan wondered where Jehovah God's goodness and kindness went because God promised with an oath according to His steadfastness and fidelity that they would continue with him. The implication was that Jehovah God did not keep His promise. Ethan was wrong. God loved David, and He loves us. God proved His love toward us by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and assure us that He will indeed keep His promise and word to us for all eternity.

Next time Ethan the Psalmist asks Jehovah God, “Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servants”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
