Deliver Me from My Enemy - Psalms 59:1

Psalms chapter fifty nine begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician, Altaschith, Michtam of David; when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director”, “Altaschith” which means “do not destroy and was a command to the chief musician or perhaps the title of a melody used for several Psalms”, “Michtam” or “a technical term found in Psalm titles which implies an engraving or poem” “of David” which means “belonging to David whose name means blessed and was the second king of Israel”; “when Saul sent” or “at the time and moment Saul whose name means and was the first king of Israel dispatched and assigned soldiers”, “and they watched” which means “and they, the soldiers, kept guard, observed and gave heed to” “the house to kill him” or “the dwelling place, habitation and abode to execute, put to death and destroy him, David”, and in chapter fifty-nine and verse one of Psalms David said, “Deliver me from my enemies, O my God” where we read,

Deliver me from my enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me.

The verse begins, Deliver me from my enemies, O my God: David began with the words, “Deliver me” or “snatch away, rescue, save and pluck me, David, away”, “from my enemies” which means “separate and apart from my, David's, hating foes and adversaries”, “O my God” or “O my, David's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. David appealed to his Divine judge Jehovah God to rescue Him from his hating foes.

The verse continues, defend me from them that rise up against me. David added the words, “defend me” or “exalt, set on high and make me, David, safe and strong” “from them that rise up” which means “separate and apart from the people who stand up, arise, fix and establish themselves” “against me” or “in opposition to me, David”. David desired that Jehovah God rescue him from the people who stood up and established themselves in opposition to him.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David wanted Jehovah God his Divine judge to rescue him from people who hated him, and he desired that God be his defense against people who established themselves against him. God desires to be the defense and protection of every person who will yield to His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus to be crucified for the sins of the world, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and defend us against anyone who stands up against us.

Next time David says, “they lie in wait for my soul”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
