Moab a Washpot and Edom a Shoe - Psalms 60:8

In Psalms chapter sixty David said, “God has spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth. Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of my head; Judah is my lawgiver”, and in chapter sixty and verse eight of Psalms David said, “Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe” where we read,

Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph you because of me.

The verse begins, Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: David began with the word, “Moab” whose name means “of his father and was the land inhabited by the descendants of the son of Lot” “is my washpot;” which means “exists as my, David's, caldron, fishhook, pan or utensil for cooking” “over Edom” or “upon Edom whose name means red and was the land of the descendants of Esau which was south and south east of Palestine” “will I cast out my shoe” which means “shall I, David, hurl, fling and throw my, David's, slipper or sandal which was a symbol of occupancy or of something valueless”. David said through Jehovah God, the land of “Moab” would be like a cooking pot to him, and the land of “Edom” would be valueless and occupied by him.

The verse continues,Philistia, triumph you because of me. David continued with the word, Philistiawhose name means “land of sojourners and was the general territory on the west coast of Canaan or the entire country of Palestine”, “triumph you” which means “shout, raise a sound, cry out and give a blast or a war-cry or alarm of battle” “because of me” or “since and on account of me, David”. David said he would also conquer the land of “Philista” with the shout of a battle cry.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how one by one David was given territory by Jehovah God. “Moab, Edom and Philistia” were to become conquered foes, and because David had a personal relationship with Jehovah God, He would give David the ability to defeat them. God desires to give everyone spiritual “territory”, and this comes through believing and trusting in His Son Jesus as “Savior and Lord”. God sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and thereby He took “territory” from our enemy Satan who would have us all be separated from God forever. God loves us and wants us to be with Him throughout eternity, and when we submit to His Son Jesus, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and be given territory after territory according to His Divine will and purpose for our lives.

Next time David asks, “Who will bring me into the strong city?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
