In Psalms chapter fifty nine David appealed to God concerning the wicked, “Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God rules in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah. And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied”, and in chapter fifty-nine and verse sixteen of Psalms David said, “I will sing of your power” where we read,
But I will sing of your power; yes, I will sing aloud of your mercy in the morning:
for you have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.
The verse begins, “But I will sing of your power; yes, I will sing aloud of your mercy in the morning:” David began with the words, “but I will sing” or “however, moreover, nonetheless and notwithstanding I, David, shall make a melody or song with my voice” “of your power” which means “pertaining to your, Jehovah God's, might, strength and majesty”; “I will sing aloud” or “I, David, shall make a melody or song with my voice and a ringing cry of joy, exaltation, wisdom and praise” “of your mercy” which means “pertaining to your, Jehovah God's, goodness, faithfulness and kindness” “in the morning” or “at sunrise, dawn or within the break or beginning of the day,”. David said he would loudly make a melody with his voice concerning Jehovah God's strength and might at the dawn of the day.
The verse goes on to say, “for you have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.” David continued with the words, “for you have been my defense” or “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God, have existed as my, David's, secure height, retreat and tower” “and refuge” which means “and place of escape or place to take flight” “in the day of my trouble” or “within the time period pertaining to my, David's, straits, distress and tribulation”. David declared Jehovah God to be his retreat and place of escape in the time of his distress and tribulation.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David declared he would break out in a loud song concerning Jehovah God's strength and might, and he would do so early in the morning because God was His place of retreat and escape when distresses arose. No one is exempt from trials and tribulations, and they arise in many forms. When we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ God's Son as our “Savior and Lord”, He will not only forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life, but will also put a song in our hearts that may be sung loudly at the break of day because He is our “defense and refuge” when those times arise. God loves us, and He is for us. He knows we will experience difficulties like He did when He was on the earth, but when we have an intimate relationship with Him, we may sing through them because He is in our midst.
Next time David says, “unto you, O my strength, will I sing”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
