Wander Up and Down for Meat - Psalms 59:15

In Psalms chapter fifty nine David appealed to God concerning the wicked, “Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God rules in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah. And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city”, and in chapter fifty-nine and verse fifteen of Psalms David said, “let them wander up and down for meat” where we read,

Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied.

The verse begins, Let them wander up and down for meat, ... David began with the words, “let them wander up” or “allow and permit them, the wicked transgressors, to totter, shake, stagger, move and tremble to the upside” “and down” which means “and toward the downside” “for meat” or “on behalf of substance or food”. David appealed to Jehovah God to allow the “wicked transgressors” to stagger and search all around for food and nourishment.

The verse continues,... and grudge if they be not satisfied. David added the words, “and grudge” or “and remain and abide complaining, murmuring and grumbling” “if they be not satisfied” which means “whether they, the wicked transgressors, are not surfeited or fulfilled”. David wanted Jehovah God to permit the “wicked transgressors” to continue their grumbling and murmuring when they are not fulfilled.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David wanted Jehovah God to allow “wicked transgressors” to search all over for food without finding it and to let them remain in their complaining and grumbling state because they were not fulfilled. There is no doubt that David had a few ideas for God to deal with his “hating foes”, and God certainly could follow his direction. However, God is a God of love, and He desires to have everyone come to Him through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to “save” us from our sins by dying on the cross in our place. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and attend to the “wicked transgressors” who confront us. God gives everyone an opportunity to have a relationship with Him, but should they refuse, woe be to those whom God allows to search for their sustenance while grumbling because they are unfulfilled.

Next time David says, “I will sing of your power”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
