In Psalms chapter fifty nine David said, “The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon my enemies. Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by your power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield”, and in chapter fifty-nine and verse twelve of Psalms David said, “let them even be taken in their pride” where we read,
For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride:
and for cursing and lying which they speak.
The verse begins, “For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride:” David began with the words, “For the sin” or “because, since and on account of the offense, expiation and habitual missing of the mark” “of their mouth” which means “belonging to their, David's enemies', orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “and the words” or “and the utterances, declarations and proclamations” “of their lips” which means “belonging to their, David's enemies', language, speech and talk” “let them be taken in their pride” or “allow and permit them, David's enemies, to be captured, seized, grasped, trapped and snared within their, David's enemies', arrogance, swelling, exaltation and majesty”. David desired that his “enemies” be overtaken by Jehovah God because of their arrogance and haughtiness within their sinful and wretched speaking and talk.
The verse goes on to say, “and for cursing and lying which they speak.” David continued with the words, “and for cursing” or “and on behalf of David's enemies' oath of covenant, execration and imprecation” “and lying” which means “and telling falsehoods and deceptions” “which they speak” or “that they, David's enemies, utter, declare and proclaim”. David included the imprecations and falsehoods told by his “enemies” as causes for Jehovah to take them down in their arrogance.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David committed his “hating adversaries” to Jehovah God to judge according to their prideful ways which were evidenced within their speech. They sinned with their mouths and lips, and they cursed and lied whenever they spoke. David wanted Jehovah God to judge them, and because he had a personal relationship with God, David could rely upon Him to come to his defense. God wants every person to relate to Him through His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to be crucified upon the cross and raised from the dead three days later. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and given the Holy Spirit to defend and protect us from the sinful words of those who oppose us.
Next time David says, “consume them in wrath”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
