In Psalms chapter fifty nine David said, “The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon my enemies”, and in chapter fifty-nine and verse eleven of Psalms David said, “Slay them not, lest my people forget” where we read,
Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by your power;
and bring them down, O Lord our shield.
The verse begins, “Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by your power;” David began with the words, “Slay them not” or “do not kill, murder, destroy or ruin them, David's enemies”, “lest my people forget” which means “else and unless my, David's, compatriots, country-men, kinsmen and kindred be oblivious and want of memory or attention”: “scatter them” or “stagger, move, vibrate and totter them, David's enemies” “by your power” which means “through the use of your, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, might and strength”. David appealed to Jehovah God not to kill his “enemies” or else his compatriots and kindred would be oblivious to them, and he desired that God would stagger and move them by his power and might.
The verse continues, “and bring them down, O Lord our shield.” David added the words, “and bring them down” or “and make them, David's enemies, to descend, decline and be prostrate”, “O Lord” which means “O Adonay or reverent master” “our shield” or “our, David and his compatriots', buckler, protector and defense”. David beckoned his Divine judge, ruler and master Jehovah God to make his “enemies” to descend and decline because He was David's protection.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David desired that his “enemies” not be destroyed or ruined because his fellow compatriots would not remember what they did to them. David wanted God to make them descend from their high positions as he knew God was his protection and defense. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind and to be raised from the dead three days later. God loves us, and He will be our defense, forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us according to His Divine purpose and plan for our lives when we surrender our lives to Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time David says, “let them even be taken in their pride”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
