The beloved physician Luke wrote when Jesus, “was come near unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging. And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passes by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, you Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, You Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, saying, What will you that I shall do unto you? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight”, and in chapter eighteen and verse forty-two of his book Luke wrote how Jesus tells the blind man, “receive your sight: your faith has saved you” where we read:
And Jesus said unto him, Receive your sight: your faith has saved you.
The verse reads, “And Jesus said unto him, Receive your sight:” Luke began with the words, “and Jesus said unto him” or “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation uttered, declared and proclaimed to the blind man”, “receive your sight” which means “look up and see”. Luke shared how Jesus simply told the blind man to “see”.
The verse continues, “your faith has saved you.” Luke added the words, “your faith” or “your, the blind man's, belief, trust, assurance and conviction of the truth” “has saved you” which means “has healed, preserved and made you, the blind man, whole”. Luke shared how Jesus told the “blind man” that his “trust and belief” healed him and made him whole.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus only had to speak a word, and the “blind man's” sight was made whole. Jesus is the Creator of the Universe, and He spoke it into existence. (See John 1:1-3) Is it any wonder that He could say one word, “anablepo” in Greek which means receive your sight, and the “blind man” would see? Jesus is able to change a life in an instant, and when a person yields their “spiritually blind” life to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He is able to make them “see” like they have never seen before. May all who read these words come to Jesus and ask Him to heal their sight.
Next time Luke shares how, “immediately he received his sight, and followed him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
