Crying Out and Delivered - Psalms 22:5

Psalms chapter twenty-two begins with David asking, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the daytime, but you hear not; and in the night season, and am not silent. But you are holy, O you that inhabit the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in you: they trusted, and you did deliver them, and in chapter twenty two and verse five of Psalms David said,They cried unto you, and were delivered where we read,

They cried unto you, and were delivered: they trusted in you, and were not confounded.

The verse begins, “They cried unto you, and were delivered: David began with the words, “They cried unto you” which means “the forefathers of David and his fellow believers in Jehovah God shouted aloud and made a crying proclamation to you, Jehovah God”, “and were delivered” or “and were rescued, saved and made to escape”. David shared how the forefathers of he and his fellow believers made a crying proclamation to Jehovah God and were rescued by Him.

The verse continues, “they trusted in you, and were not confounded. David added the words, “they trusted in you” or “the forefathers had faith, confidence and security within you, Jehovah God”, “and were not confounded” which means “and were not disappointed, shamed or disconcerted”. David referred to how he and his fellow believers put their faith and confidence within Jehovah God, and they were not disappointed or disconcerted by Him.

When we mediate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the forefathers of David and his fellow believers shouted aloud to Jehovah God, and they were rescued. They put their faith in Him, and they were not disappointed for doing so. Jesus hung on the cross with a seeming abandonment by His Father God, and though He cried out, Jehovah did not respond. This was because God wants people to have a personal relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to endure His time of silence and die for the sins of all mankind. Everyone has an opportunity to be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him, and may we follow the example of the forefathers of David and his fellow believers and put our trust and confidence in Jehovah God and His plan of salvation through His Son Jesus.

Next time David says, I am a worm, and no man, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
