Psalms chapter twenty-one begins with the heading, [[To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.]] which breaks down, “To the chief Musician” or “to the overseer, preeminent and superintending choral director” “A Psalm” which means “a melody or poem set to notes” “of David” or “belonging to David whose name means beloved and was the second king of Israel”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse one of Psalms David said, “The King shall joy in your strength” where we read,
The king shall joy in your strength, O LORD; and in your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!
The verse begins, “The king shall joy in your strength, O LORD; ” David began with the words, “the king” which means “the royal judge and ruler” “shall joy in your strength” or “will rejoice, be glad and exult within your, Jehovah God's, might, boldness, power and security, “O LORD” which refers to “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for our One True God”. David said he as the royal ruler would rejoice and be glad within the power and security of Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “and in your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!” David continued with the words, “and in your salvation” or “and within your, Jehovah God's, deliverance, welfare and prosperity” “how greatly shall he rejoice” which means “to what exceeding, might, force and abundance will the king, David, be glad, joyful and exult”. David wrote how he as the king would also be exceedingly glad within Jehovah God's deliverance and prosperity.
When we think through the words in this verse we learn what caused David to be glad and joyful. Jehovah God's power and deliverance made him be exceedingly filled with delight, and he was overjoyed to proclaim it. Jehovah God desires to be the “strength and salvation” for every person who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. When we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. He promises to fill us with His power, and His deliverance will be available according to His perfect plan, will and purpose. Let Jehovah God be praised for His willingness to be our “strength and salvation” even as He was for king David.
Next time David says, “You have given him his heart's desire”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
