In Psalms chapter twenty-one David said, “The king shall joy in your strength, O LORD; and in your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice! You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah. For you prevent him with the blessings of goodness: you set a crown of pure gold on his head”, and in Psalms chapter twenty one and verse four David said, “He asked life of you, and you gave it to him” where we read,
He asked life of you, and you gave it him, even length of days for ever and ever.
The verse begins, “He asked life of you, and you gave it him, ...” David began with the words, “He asked life of you” which means “he, king David, inquired carefully and requested active living from you, Jehovah God”, “and you gave it him” or “and you, Jehovah God, granted, bestowed, furnished and supplied life to him, king David”. David declared how he requested that Jehovah God preserve his ability to live, and God granted his request.
The verse continues, “... even length of days for ever and ever.” David added the words, “even length of days” or “indeed a long amount of time” “for ever and ever” which means “perpetually, without end, ever more, everlasting and into the continuing future”. David said he requested that Jehovah God give him the ability to live eternally.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David was concerned with the length of time he would be alive. David wanted to live forever, and Jehovah God was the only person who could provide that blessing. God created mankind to live forever, and although the physical body one day dies, the spirit never does. God's desire is to spend eternity with people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for our sins so this would be possible. Jesus said, “... whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (See John 3:15-16). When we submit to Jesus, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. Let all praise and glory be unto Jehovah God for His provision for all who believe in His Son Jesus to have “length of days” to live “for ever and ever”.
Next time David says, “His glory is great in your salvation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
