Remembering the Name of the LORD - Psalms 20:7

In Psalms chapter twenty David wrote, “Now know I that the LORD saves his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand”, and in chapter twenty and verse seven of Psalms David said, we will remember the name of the LORD our God” where we read,

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

The verse begins, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: David began with the words, “Some trust in chariots” which means “a number of people or nations boast and have faith and confidence within their cavalry wagons or riders of chariots”, “and some in horses” or “and a number of people and nations boast and have faith and confidence within their leaping horses equipped for battle”. David referred to people who boast about their military wagons or “chariots” and their “horses” which are equipped for war.

The verse continues, but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. David added the words, “but we will remember” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover we, David and the people reading and listening to his words, shall bring to remembrance, call to mind and make a memorial of” “the name of the LORD” which means “the reputation, fame and glory belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “our God” or “our, David and the people listening to and reading his words, Divine ruler, judge and Supreme God”. David proclaimed that he and those with him would put their confidence, hope and trust within Jehovah God who is the Supreme God.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David did not “boast” in his armament or vehicles for battle like other people and nations. He put his faith and trust in Jehovah God. God was David's defense, and no one with chariots, horses or other means for war could defeat Him. God wants to be the defense for every person, and when they yield to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and be their protection for all eternity. Rather than boasting and trusting in things that are perishable, let us give praise and honor to Jehovah God for being the One who is able to rescue and save regardless of the armament of the ones who battle against us.

Next time David says, they are brought down and fallen, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
