Jesus of Nazareth Passes By - Luke 18:37

The beloved physician Luke wrote when Jesus, “was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging. And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant”, and in chapter eighteen and verse thirty-seven of his book Luke wrote how people told the blind man, “Jesus of Nazareth passes by” where we read:

And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passes by.

The verse reads, “And they told him, ... Luke began with the words, “and they” or “and the people who were in the crowd” “told him” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to the blind man”. Luke shared how the crowd began to tell the “blind man” what was “meant” by the large group of people passing by.

The verse goes on to say, “ … that Jesus of Nazareth passes by.” Luke continued with the words, “that Jesus of Nazareth” or “that the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate who is from the town of Nazareth which means one separated” “passes by” which means “goes past and moving forward”. Luke shared how the crowd told the “blind man” “Jesus” who was from “Nazareth” was going by him.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how the people in the crowd answered the “blind man” by telling him Jesus was “passing by”. God is omnipresent or everywhere present, and He is “passing by” anyone who discovers their need for Him. He desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their life to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they will have taken advantage of the presence of Almighty God within their midst.

Next time Luke shares how the blind man tells Jesus, “have mercy on me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
