The Blind Man Asking for Meaning - Luke 18:36

The beloved physician Luke wrote when Jesus, “was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging”, and in chapter eighteen and verse thirty-six of his book Luke wrote how, “a certain blind man sat by the way side begging” where we read:

And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

The verse reads, “And hearing the multitude pass by, ... Luke began with the words, “and hearing the multitude” or “and being endowed with the faculty of hearing, not deaf, perceiving, understanding and considering the large group of people ” “pass by” which means “journeying and traveling across where the blind man was”. Luke shared how the “blind man” perceived that a large group of people were walking by where he was begging.

The verse continues, “ … he asked what it meant.” Luke added the words, “he asked” or “the blind man questions or inquired as to” “what it meant” which means “what was happening with the crowd passing by him”. Luke shared how the “blind man” began questioning what was the meaning of the crowd passing by.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the “crowd” passing by the “blind man” caused him to question what they were doing. We will see how this story unfolds in our next verses, but for now let us be aware that God works in natural ways to reveal His power over physical circumstances. His desires is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus Christ, and when they yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they shall find Him available to help even when the crowds and masses surround Him.

Next time Luke shares how people told the blind man, “Jesus of Nazareth passes by”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
