Covered with God's Feathers and Wings - Psalms 91:4

In Psalms ninety-one the Psalmist said, “He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence”, and in chapter ninety-one and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, “He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings shall you trust” where we read,

He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings shall you trust:

his truth shall be your shield and buckler.

The verse begins, He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings shall you trust: The Psalmist began with the words, “He shall cover you” or “He, Jehovah God, will hedge, fence, shut in and screen you, people who dwell in the secret place of the most High” “with his feathers” which means “by the use of his, Jehovah God's, pinions and wings”, “and under his wings” or “and beneath his, Jehovah God's, extremities, edges, borders and corners” “shall you trust” which means “will you, people how dwell in the secret place of the most High, seek refuge, flee for protection, confide and hope”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would hedge and shut in the person who dwells under the shadow of His wings by the use of His pinions, and beneath Jehovah God's extremities and borders they will take refuge and flee from protection.

The verse goes on to say, “his truth shall be your shield and buckler. The Psalmist continued with the words, “his truth” or “his, Jehovah God's, firmness, faithfulness, sureness, reliability, stability and continuance” “shall be your shield” which means “will exist as your, the person who dwells in the secret place of the most High's, large shield or target as if guarded by prickliness as piercing” “and buckler” or “and a small round shield held by a handle or worn on the forearm”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God's faithfulness and reliability would serve as the people who dwell in the secret place of the most High's protective “large and small shield”.

When think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said Jehovah God would be the protection and defense of the people who dwell in His “secret place”. God desires to be involved in our lives in a personal way, and He provided for this intimacy through the death of His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we surrender to Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be the sureness and reliability that we need to protect us from our foes.

Next time the Psalmist says, “you shall not be afraid for the terror by night”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
