Not Afraid of Terror or the Arrow - Psalms 91:5

In Psalms ninety-one the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings shall you trust: his truth shall be your shield and buckler”, and in chapter ninety-one and verse six the Psalmist said, “you shall not be afraid for the terror by night” where we read,

You shall not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flies by day;

The verse begins, You shall not be afraid for the terror by night; The Psalmist began with the words, “You shall not be afraid” or “you, the person who dwells in the secret place of the most High will in no way or manner exist as revered, in awe, having honor, dread or astonishment” “for the terror” which means “because and on account of the dread, alarm and thing to be feared” “by night” or “at midnight”. The Psalmist said the people who dwell in the secret place of the most High would not exist in dread and astonishment at the fearful and alarming things at midnight.

The verse goes on to say,nor for the arrow that flies by day; The Psalmist continued with the words, “nor for the arrow” or “no and not in any way because and on account of the darts or shafts for archers” “that flies by day” or “that is brandished and flies about to and fro throughout the daytime”. The Psalmist said the people who dwell in the secret place of the most High did not have to be afraid of the archers “arrows” that fly about during the daytime.

When consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist shared more things that people who dwell in the secret place of the most High did not have to fear. The “terror” that comes at midnight, and the archers “arrows” that fly throughout the daytime were a threat to most people, however, Jehovah God was with them, and they had no need to be afraid. This personal relationship is available to all of us through God's Son Jesus Christ. Jesus was sent into the world to die on the cross for our sins which separated us from a relationship with God, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and defend and protect us against any means that comes against us during the nighttime or the day.

Next time the Psalmist shares about, “pestilence” and “destruction”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
