In Psalms chapter thirty five David said, “Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: … let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them”, and in chapter thirty-five and verse six of Psalms, David appealed to Jehovah God to, “Let their way be dark and slippery” where we read,
Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.
The verse begins, “Let their way be dark and slippery:” David began with the words, “Let their way” which means “allow and permit the journey, way, path and direction of the people who stove and fought with David to” “be dark” or “exist as obscure and ignorant with sorrow, misery and wickedness” “and slippery” which means “and with flattery, fine promises, smoothness and treacherous spots and blandishment”. David desired that Jehovah God permit the journey and direction of those who strove against him to be filled with flattery, fine promises and treacherous spots of palaver.
The
verse continues, “and
let the angel of the LORD persecute them.”
David added the words, “and
let the angel” or “and allow
and permit the spiritual messenger or envoy” “of the
LORD” which means “belonging
to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One
True God” “persecute them”
or “put to flight, chase, harass and ardently run after the people
who strove and fought against David”. David wanted Jehovah God to
send His “messenger” to chase after and put to flight his foes
and enemies.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn more of the ways David thought Jehovah God should encounter and oppose his enemies. He wanted Jehovah to make their path or plans treacherous, and he desired that God send His envoy to run after and harass them. God loved David, and David loved God. David knew there was none better than Jehovah God in which to commit the punishment of the foes who were against him. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of everyone because He wants a personal relationship with us. His invitation to receive His Son Jesus is available to us, and when we accept Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be our defense against those who rise up to strive and fight against us.
Next time David says, “without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
