In Psalms chapter thirty four David wrote, “Come, you children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD”, and in chapter thirty-four and verse twelve of Psalms, David asked, “What man is he that desires life, and loves many days” where we read,
What man is he that desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good?
The verse begins, “What man is he that desires life, ...” David began with the words, “What man is he” which means “who is the person whether male or female” “that desires life” or “who delights in, has pleasure in, wishes for and favors sustenance, maintenance, living, appetite, renewal and revival”. David asked who delights in and wishes for living, appetite, renewal and revival.
The verse continues, “... and loves many days, that he may see good?” David added the words, “and loves many days” or “and is affectionate toward and has an appetite for a great and numerous amount of twenty four hours which includes the morning to the evening and the evening to the morning”, “that he may see good” which means “so the person might look at, inspect, perceive and consider pleasant, agreeable, excellent and valuable things”? David continued his question concerning the person who “desires life” by adding a great number of days to live so they might observe excellent and valuable things.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David presented a question to his readers and listeners concerning a person who wants “living” and a great number of “days” so they might observe excellent and valuable things. Jesus said, “The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (See John 10:10), and the person who desires “true life” with all it's benefits, puts their faith and trust in Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. God desired to have an intimate personal relationship with every person, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of everyone so anyone who believes may receive. God loves us, and when we surrender to Jesus, we will have answered the question of David in a manner that is pleasing to God, and we will reap all the “good” He has for us to “see”.
Next time David says, “Keep your tongue from evil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
