In Psalms chapter thirty five David said, “in my adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yes, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not. With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth”, and in chapter thirty-five and verse seventeen of Psalms, David asked, “Lord, how long will you look on?” where we read,
Lord, how long will you look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.
The verse begins, “Lord, how long will you look on?” David began with the words, “Lord, how long” which means “Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God, for what length of time” “will you look on” or “shall you, Lord, observe, see, perceive, consider, give attention to and discern”? David asked Jehovah God for what length of time would He observe and give attention to the false witnesses who rose up against him.
The verse continues, “rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.” David added the words, “rescue my soul” or “recompense, restore, deliver, liberate and set free my, David's, self, life, creature, person, appetite, mind, living being, desire, emotion and passion” “from their destructions” which means “apart and separate from their, the false witnesses', ravages, ruin and waste”, “my darling” or “my, David's, sole, beloved and solitary life” “from the lions” which means “apart and separate from the youthful lions”. David asked Jehovah God to liberate him from the ravages and ruin of false witnesses who were like young ravenous “lions” in pursuit of him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David desired to know what length of time Jehovah God was only going to watch what was happening to him. He wanted the LORD to deliver him from the ravages and ruin that false witnesses planned against him. God loves people, and when we surrender our lives to His Son Jesus who came to be crucified for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and “rescue” us from the one who hates us most, Satan, whom Jesus defeated when He rose from the grave. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God for His willingness to “deliver” us from the onslaughts of our enemies and foes.
Next time David says, “I will give you thanks in the great congregation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
