In Psalms chapter thirty three David wrote, “Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous: for praise is comely for the upright”, and in chapter thirty three and verse two of Psalms David said, “Praise the LORD with harp” where we read,
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
The verse begins, “Praise the LORD with harp:” David began with the words, “Praise the LORD” which means “laud, give thanks and worship Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “with harp” or “by the use of a lyre which was a stringed instrument used for popular and sacred music”. David exhorted those reading and hearing his words to give thanks and worship Jehovah God by using the stringed “lyre” to play songs.
The verse continues, “sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.” David added the words, “sing unto him” or “make music and praise with the voice as a musical instrument toward Jehovah God” “with the psaltery” which means “by the use of the a skin-bag, jar, pitcher or guitar” “and an instrument of ten strings” or “as well as a ten stringed harp or decachord”. David wrote how people listening or reading his words were to use their voices, the ancient and medieval musical instrument like a dulcimer played by plucking the strings with the fingers or a plectrum and the ten stringed decachord to give praise and honor to Jehovah God.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David desired that people give honor, thanksgiving and worship to Jehovah God by the use of their voices and musical instruments. The Psalms are a testimony of David's desire to honor God with music, and because he loved the LORD, He wanted Him to be praised. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world. He died on the cross for the sins of everyone, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. This blessing from the LORD should make everyone desire to sing out to Him and play instruments of worship for His wonderful provision of eternal salvation to man.
Next time David says, “Sing unto him a new song”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
