In Psalms chapter thirty three David wrote, “The LORD looks from heaven; he beholds all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looks upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashions their hearts alike; he considers all their works”, and in chapter thirty three and verse sixteen of Psalms David shares how, “there is no king saved by the multitude of an host” where we read,
There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
The verse begins, “There is no king saved by the multitude of an host:” David began with the words, “There is no king” which means “there exists not one royal ruler” “saved by the multitude” or “liberated, delivered and victorious with the use of an abundant, great and numerous amount” “of an host” which means “belonging to an army with strength, might, efficiency or wealth”. David said no royal ruler exists who is liberated and delivered by a numerous amount of strong and mighty armies.
The verse continues, “a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.” David added the words, “a mighty man” or “a strong, excellent and powerful person whether male or female” “is not delivered” which means “is in no way recovered, snatched away, liberated, rescued and saved” “by much strength” or “through an abundant, great and numerous amount of power, vigor and ability”. David shared how powerful people are not liberated or saved by their abundant vigor and ability.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through David how there is no royal ruler or person in power who delivers and liberates themselves by a numerous army, neither is there a person who is rescued and save by their great vigor and ability. As Jesus told Pontius Pilate, “you could have no power at all against me, except it were given you from above: therefore he that delivered me unto you has the greater sin” (See John 19:11), and Paul the apostle wrote, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” (See Romans 13:1) Although people throughout the ages have used armies, power and might to “protect, rescue and save” themselves and their people, Jehovah God provides the ability and strength to mankind. God's desire as the omnipotent God is to rescue and save people from the penalty of sin which is death, and He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified and raised from the dead to demonstrate His power and might over the greatest enemy to mankind. When we surrender to Jesus, our sins will be forgiven, we will inherit eternal life and we will be joined to the might and power of Almighty God who is able to protect, rescue and save anyone He desires.
Next time David shares how, “a horse is a vain thing for safety”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
