In Psalms chapter thirty five David appealed to Jehovah God to, “Stir up yourself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. Judge me, O LORD my God, according to your righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me”, and in chapter thirty-five and verse twenty-five of Psalms, David said, “Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it” where we read,
Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
The verse begins, “Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it:” David began with the words, “Let them not say” which means “do not allow or permit the false witnesses and foes against David to utter, declare and proclaim” “in their hearts” or “within their, the false witnesses and foes', inner man, mind, will, understanding, soul and seat of appetites, emotions and passions”, “Ah, so would we have it” which means “aha, we got what we wanted”. David appealed to Jehovah God not to allow his “enemies” to mockingly say, ha ha, we received that for which we hoped.
The verse continues, “let them not say, We have swallowed him up.” David added the words, “let them not say” or “do not allow or permit the false witnesses and foes against David to utter, declare and proclaim”, “we have swallowed him up” which means “we, David's hating foes and false witnesses, engulfed, devoured and destroyed him”. David asked Jehovah God not to allow his “enemies” to declare how they destroyed and devoured him.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David was concerned that his enemies would mock him with their desire that he fall into destruction and fail. David brought his desire to Jehovah God, and there was no better place to go. God loves people, and He desires a personal relationship with every person who will surrender to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and gain His protection over people who rise up against them. We have an opportunity to boldly bring our “foes” to Jehovah God through His Son Jesus, and He will handle them according to His perfect plan and will. (See Hebrews 4:16)
Next time David says, “Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
