In Psalms chapter thirty six David said, “How excellent is your lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of your wings”, and in chapter thirty six and verse eight of Psalms David said, “they shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of your house” where we read,
They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of your house;
and you shall make them drink of the river of your pleasures.
The verse begins, “They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of your house;” David began with the words, “they shall be abundantly satisfied” which means “the people who put their trust under the shadow of God's wings will be satiated, saturated, drenched and filled” “with the fatness” or “by means of the fertility, blessings and abundance” “of your house” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, dwelling place, habitation and abode”. David said people who put their hope and trust in Jehovah God would be filled with the abundance of His dwelling place.
The verse goes on to say, “and you shall make them drink of the river of your pleasures.” David continued with the words, “and you shall make them drink” or “and you, Jehovah God, will irrigate, give, moisten and furnish water” “of the river” which means “belonging to the torrent, wadi and stream bed” “of your pleasures” or “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, luxuries, dainties, delight and finery”. David wrote how Jehovah God would bless people who put their hope and trust in Him with the torrents of His luxuries, dainties and delights.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David shared some of the benefits to people putting their hope and trust in Jehovah God. David said they would be “exceedingly satiated” with Jehovah God's blessings and abundance, and He would cause them to imbibe of His overflowing torrents of luxuries. Speaking of Jesus, Paul the apostle wrote, “When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men” (See Ephesians 4:8), and these blessings are often spiritual in nature as Paul also wrote, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (See Ephesians 1:3). God offers salvation from sins and blessing from Him through His Son Jesus, and all are invited to receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. When we humble ourselves before Him, repent of our sins and believe and trust in Jesus, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted eternal life and begin to enjoy the torrents of blessings He has for us both now and throughout eternity.
Next time David says, “with you is the fountain of life”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
