God Spoke, and It Was Done - Psalms 33:9

In Psalms chapter thirty three David wrote, “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as an heap: he lays up the depth in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him”, and in chapter thirty three and verse nine of Psalms David said, “For he spoke, and it was done” where we read,

For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

The verse begins, “For he spoke, and it was done;” David began with the words, “for he spoke” which means “because, since and on account that he, Jehovah God, uttered, commanded, demanded and declared”, “and it was done” or “and it, the heavens and waters of the earth being formed, came to be, happened, arose and appeared”. David shared how Jehovah God commanded the universe, earth and waters of the seas to be formed, and they were.

The verse goes on to say, “he commanded, and it stood fast.” David continued with the words, “he commanded” or “he, Jehovah God, laid charge, ordered, appointed and commissioned”, “and it stood fast” which means “and the universe, earth and waters remained, endured and took their stand”. David wrote how Jehovah God ordered the universe, earth and waters to remain and endure, and they did.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David recognized that Jehovah God “spoke” the universe and everything within it into existence. (See Genesis 1) God said, and it formed. God said, and it remained. God's voice is powerful and almighty, and He is able to make something out of nothing. This same voice of God is able to speak to the hearts of people who are open to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and anyone who hears His voice, humbles themselves, turns from their sin and yields their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and enjoy an intimate relationship with the God who created them and the universe by simply giving the command.

Next time David says, “the LORD brings the counsel of the heathen to nought”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
