Psalms chapter thirty three begins with verse one where David said, “Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous” where we read,
Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
The verse begins, “Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous:” David began with the word, “Rejoice” which means “be overcome and ring aloud in joy, exaltation and praise” “in the LORD” or “within Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “O you righteous” which means “O you, people who are reading David's words, who are just, lawful and correct”. David exhorted people who were just, correct and lawful to be overcome with joy, exaltation and praise.
The verse goes on to say, “for praise is comely for the upright.” David continued with the words, “for praise is comely” or “because, since and on account that songs and hymns of adoration and thanksgiving exists as suitable, seemly and beautiful” “for the upright” which means “on behalf of the straight, correct, right and pleasing”. David wrote how “songs and hymns of adoration and thanksgiving” are fitting, proper and beautiful for people who are straightforward, correct, right and pleasing.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David exhorts those reading his words to “be overcome with joy” in Jehovah God, because “songs and hymns” of adoration and thanksgiving are beautiful for people who are straightforward and correct. God wants to bless us for our obedience to Him and His ways. He knows us and loves us, and even though we have sin in our lives, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay the price for them, and He rose from the dead three days later so we may be forgiven of our sins and granted everlasting life with Him. We who believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord” should “rejoice” with songs and hymns of adoration and thanksgiving to Jehovah God for His provision for our salvation for all eternity.
Next time David says, “Praise the LORD with the harp”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
