In Psalms chapter thirty five David appealed to Jehovah God to, “Stir up yourself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. Judge me, O LORD my God, according to your righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me. Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up”, and in chapter thirty-five and verse twenty-six of Psalms, David said, “Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion” where we read,
Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at my hurt:
let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.
The verse begins, “Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at my hurt:” David began with the words, “Let them be ashamed” which means “allow or permit the the false witnesses and foes to David to exist as disconcerted, disappointed, confounded and filled with shame” “and brought to confusion together” or “and be abashed, embarrassed and reproached” “that rejoice at my hurt” which means “who are joyful, merry, gleeful and merry hearted at my, David's, bad, unpleasantness, displeasing, unhappiness and misery”. David appealed to Jehovah God to allow his “enemies” who were joyful and merry over his unhappiness and misery to be filled with shame and embarrassed.
The verse goes on to say, “let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.” David continued with the words, “let them be clothed with shame” or “allow or permit the false witnesses and foes to David to exist as dressed and arrayed with an idol of confusion and great ignominy and disgrace” “and dishonor” which means “and reproach and insult” “that magnify themselves against me” or “who grow, become of great importance, make powerful and praise their own selves in opposition to, beyond and over me, David”. David asked Jehovah God to surround the enemies who empowered themselves against him with disgrace and reproach.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David continued to pour out his complaint about his enemies to Jehovah God. David wanted Jehovah to allow his enemies be reproached, ashamed and dishonored because they were gleeful and rejoicing over his troubles. God was listening, and He cared for David by rising up against those who were opposed to him. God will be the defense for anyone who yields their life to Him through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus was sent into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and become our protector and defense against any foes who empower themselves and make merry at our afflictions.
Next time David says, “Let them short for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
