In Psalms chapter thirty five David said, “Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help. Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am your salvation”, and in chapter thirty-five and verse four of Psalms, David appealed to Jehovah God to, “let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul” where we read,
Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul:
let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
The verse begins, “Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul:” David began with the words, “Let them be confounded” which means “allow and permit the people who are striving and fighting against David to be shamed, disconcerted and disappointed” “and put to shame” or “and insulted, humiliated, blushed, reproached and put to confusion” “that seek after my soul” which means “who require, desire, exact and demand my, David's, inner man, mind, will, life, appetite, living being, desire, emotion and passion”. David appealed to Jehovah God to disconcert, disappoint, insult and put to confusion the people whether male or female who looked for, desired and demanded his inner man, living being, emotions and passions.
The verse continues, “let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.” David added the words, “let them be turned back” or “allow and permit the people who are striving and fighting against him to backslide, be repulsed and proved recreant” “and brought to confusion” which means “and be ashamed, abashed and caused embarrassment” “that devise my hurt” or “who think, plan, esteem, calculate, invent, imagine and make a judgment toward my, David's, bad, malignancy, displeasing, evil, pain, unhappiness and misery”. David beckoned Jehovah God to cause those fighting against him to backslide, be repulsed, become unhappy and miserable.
When we think through the words in this verse, we are reminded that David had enemies who plotted against him. David took their “plans” to Jehovah God, and He allowed God to deal with them. David understood that Jehovah God would cause those who planned to do evil against him to be disconcerted, disappointed, repulsed, abashed and embarrassed. God loves people, and He will have a personal intimate relationship with every person who receives His Son Jesus as their “Lord and Savior”, and He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life with Him. When we submit to Him, any foe who rises up against us will fight against God and not just us, and woe be to the ones who determine to fight against Him.
Next time David says, “Let them be as chaff before the wind”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
