Not Speaking Peace - Psalms 35:20

In Psalms chapter thirty five David asked, “Lord, how long will you look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions. I will give you thanks in the great congregation: I will praise you among much people. Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause”, and in chapter thirty-five and verse twenty of Psalms, David said, “they speak not peace” where we read,

For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.

The verse begins, For they speak not peace: David began with the words, “For they” which means “because, since and on account that the false witnesses against David” “speak not peace” or “do not utter, declare or proclaim completeness, soundness, welfare, health and prosperity”. David said the people who spoke falsely against him did not proclaim soundness, health and prosperity upon him.

The verse goes on to say,but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.” David continued with the words, “but they devise” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, the false witnesses, plan, calculate, invent and imagine” “deceitful matters” which means “treacherous and fraudulent business, utterances, acts and purposes” “against them that are quiet” or “in opposition to and upon people who are restful and peaceful” “in the land” which means “within the country, territory, district, region and earth”. David wrote how the false witnesses against him made treacherous and fraudulent plans in opposition to people who were peaceful and restful in their country and territory.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David said the “false witnesses” who were against him did not utter sound and healthy things, but rather made malicious plans in opposition to people who were peaceable throughout their land. These were wicked and evil people who stirred up strife and purposed to cause trouble for those who were at rest. David took these pernicious people to Jehovah God who would bring them to judgment. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, but if they refuse and reject Him as their “Savior and Lord”, He will judge their wicked ways. God sent Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the whole world, and He desires that every person believe and trust in Him to receive forgiveness of sins and to inherit everlasting life. We are wise to humble ourselves before Jesus, repent of our sins and never be among those who disturb the peaceful and plot against them with wickedness.

Next time David says, they open their mouth wide against me, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
