In Psalms chapter thirty three David wrote, “Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy”, and in chapter thirty three and verse nineteen of Psalms David shared about people who hope in Jehovah's mercy, “to deliver their soul from death” where we read,
To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
The verse begins, “To deliver their soul from death, ...” David began with the words, “to deliver their soul” which means “to snatch away, rescue and recover the inner man, self, life, appetite, mind, desire, emotion and passion of people who revere the Lord” “from death” or “apart and separate from ruin, pestilence and dying”. David said people who revere Jehovah God and “hope in His mercy” will have their inner man, mind, appetite and desire rescued from ruin and dying.
The verse goes on to say, “... and to keep them alive in famine.” David continued with the words, “and to keep them alive” or “and to sustain, preserve and quicken those who are in awe of Jehovah God and hope in Him” “in famine” which means “when there is dearth and hunger”. David wrote how the “mercy” of Jehovah God will sustain those who revere and hope in Him whenever there is dearth and hunger.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn from David some of the benefits provided to people who are in awe of Jehovah God and “hope in His mercy”. David said Jehovah would rescue them from “dying and ruin”, and He would sustain their life whenever dearth and hunger arrived. God loves people, and when we revere Him and His Son Jesus, He will preserve us from eternal death by forgiving our sins and allowing us to live with Him forever. God knows our needs, both physical and spiritual, and He stands ready to provide them for every one who reveres and hopes in Him.
Next time David says, “Our soul waits for the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
