In Psalms chapter thirty five David appealed to Jehovah God to, “Stir up yourself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. Judge me, O LORD my God, according to your righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me. Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up. Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at my hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me”, and in chapter thirty-five and verse twenty-seven of Psalms, David said, “Let them shout for joy, and be glad” where we read,
Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause:
yes, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which has pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
The verse begins, “Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause:” David began with the words, “Let them shout for joy” which means “allow or permit people who are as follows to be overcome with a ringing cry, exaltation and rejoicing”, “and be glad” or “and exist as exulted, brightened up and merry”, “that favor my righteous cause” which means “who desire and have pleasure in my, David's, justice, righteousness and deliverance”. David appealed to Jehovah God to allow people who supported his righteousness and justice to cry aloud with singing and merriment.
The verse continues, “yes, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which has pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.” David added the words, “yes, let them say continually” or “even so and indeed, therefore, wherefore and these things being so, allow the people who favored David utter, declared and proclaim perpetually, continuously and constantly”, “Let the LORD” which means “allow and permit Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “be magnified” or “become great, powerful, advanced and exceedingly excellent”, “which has pleasure in” or “who delights in pleasing” “the prosperity of his servant” which means “the completeness, soundness, welfare and safety pertaining to his, Jehovah God's, slave, bondman and person of servile condition”. David desired that Jehovah God constantly allow people who supported him to magnify God who delights in pleasing the people who serve Him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see the contrasting desire of David for people who supported him and his righteousness. He wanted them to “cry aloud” with singing and merriment, and to constantly declare how Jehovah God is delighted to bring completeness, soundness and safety to those who serve Him. God loves people, and He desires to have a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for every person, and when we submit our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to “serve” Him in His Kingdom. As we minister to Him, He will pour out blessings and goodness upon us. Let Jehovah God be praised for His willingness not only to provide us with His “salvation”, but also to receive His abundant blessings when we commit to Him.
Next time David tells Jehovah God, “my tongue shall speak of your righteousness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
