In Psalms chapter thirty five David said, “Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause. For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land. Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye has seen it”, and in chapter thirty-five and verse twenty-two of Psalms, David said, “This you have seen, O LORD” where we read,
This you have seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.
The verse begins, “This you have seen, O LORD: keep not silence:” David began with the words, “This you have seen” which means “the mocking of the false witnesses, you, Jehovah God, have observed, notice, discovered and discerned”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”: “keep not silence” which means “do not be silent, speechless or deaf”. David declared that Jehovah God observed the mocking and taunting of the false witnesses against him, and he wanted Jehovah not to remain silent or speechless about it.
The verse goes on to say, “O Lord, be not far from me.” David continued with the words, “O Lord” or “O Adonay or the reverent master of David”, “be not far from me” which means “do not become distant, removed and far away from me, David”. David appealed to Jehovah God not to be distant and removed from him.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David knew Jehovah God observed what the “false witnesses” were saying and planning against him, and He wanted God to speak up about it. He requested that Jehovah, his master, not be far removed from him. In other words, David knew God watched what he was going through, and he felt like God was distant from him. Paul the apostle said, “in him we live, and move, and have our being” (See Acts 17:28), and He is with us and well aware when others have spoken and plotted against us. He loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. Though there are times where it seems He is distant and not hearing our requests or seeing our difficulties, we can be assured because the cross tells us He is with us and will take care of our troubles in His perfect timing.
Next time David tells Jehovah God, “Stir up yourself, and awake to my judgment”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
