In Psalms chapter thirty three David wrote, “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as an heap: he lays up the depth in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast”, and in chapter thirty three and verse ten of Psalms David said, “the LORD brings the counsel of the heathen to nought” where we read,
The LORD brings the counsel of the heathen to nought:
he makes the devices of the people of none effect.
The verse begins, “The LORD brings the counsel of the heathen to nought:” David began with the words, “the LORD” which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “brings the counsel” or “utterly takes, breaks and crushes the purpose, prudence and advice” “of the heathen” which means “belonging to Gentile, heathen and foreign nations” “to nought” or “toward nothing, destruction and frustration”. David said Jehovah God breaks and crushes the purpose and advice of heathen people.
The verse continues, “he makes the devices of the people of none effect.” David added the words, “he makes the devices” or “he, Jehovah God, hinders, holds back, forbids, disallows, retrains and frustrates the thoughts, plans, purposes and inventions” “of the people” which means “belonging to the nations, compatriots, country-men, kinsmen and kindred” “of none effect” or “to be hindered, held back, forbidden, disallowed, restrained and frustrated”. David wrote how Jehovah God disallows, frustrates and forbids the acts, plans and purposes of heathen people as well.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through David how Jehovah God involves Himself in the “advice” and “plans” of people who are heathen. In other words, when people do not align with Jehovah God's plan of salvation, He interrupts their advice and plans for living. God knows and loves every person, and He demonstrated His love by sending His Son Jesus to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. When we receive Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide our “counsel” and “devices” according to His will. (See John 16:13) Otherwise, He is able to disrupt, crush and break the “advice and plans” of anyone who does not yield to Him and invites unnecessary difficulties and troubles into their lives.
Next time David says, “the counsel of the LORD stands for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
