In Psalms chapter thirty three David wrote, “The LORD brings the counsel of the heathen to nought: he makes the devices of the people of none effect. The counsel of the LORD stands for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations”, and in chapter thirty three and verse twelve of Psalms David said, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD” where we read,
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD;
and the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.
The verse begins, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD;” David began with the words, “Blessed is the nation” which means “the people who consist of descendants of Abraham, non-Hebrews and foreign people exists as O how happy” “whose God” or “whose Divine ruler, judge and Supreme God” “is the LORD” which means “exists as Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David said the groups or nations of people who have Jehovah God as their Supreme God exist as “O how happy”.
The verse continues, “and the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.” David added the words, “and the people” or “and the nations, members of one's people, compatriots, countrymen, kinsmen and kindred” “whom he has chosen” which means “that he, Jehovah God, decided upon, selected and elected ” “for his own inheritance” or “on behalf of his, Jehovah God's, own personal possession, property, portion, share and heritage”. David wrote how the “nations, kindred and countrymen” that God has selected and elected as His own possession and heritage are also “O how happy” or “Blessed”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through David that people and nations who choose Jehovah God as their governing authority exist as “O how happy”. Some nations and people “choose” the LORD as their sovereign God, and others are elected by Him. God offers Himself to the whole world through His Son Jesus, and when people yield to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He elects them according to their choice. God knows everything. He knows the people who “choose” Him, and He knows the ones whom He has chosen. God invites us to surrender our lives to Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we “choose” Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and elect us as His “own inheritance”.
Next time David says, “The LORD looks from heaven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
