Pursuing and Overtaking Enemies - Psalms 18:37

In Psalms chapter eighteen David wrote, It is God that girds me with strength, and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like hinds' feet, and sets me upon my high places. He teaches my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by my arms. You have also given me the shield of your salvation: and your right hand has held me up, and your gentleness has made me great. You have enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip”, and in chapter eighteen and verse thirty-seven of Psalms David said, “I have pursued my enemies, and overtaken them where we read,

I have pursued my enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.

The verse begins, I have pursued my enemies, and overtaken them:” David began with the words, “I have pursued my enemies” which means “I, David, have ran after, chased and aimed eagerly to secure my, David's, hating adversaries and foes”, “and overtaken them” or “and reached, took hold of and attained them, David's enemies”. David said he was able to chase after and take hold of the adversaries who hated him.

The verse goes on to say, neither did I turn again till they were consumed. David continued with the words, “neither did I turn again” or “no and not in any way did I, David, return, go back, relinquish or retreat” “till they were consumed” which means “even until and to the degree that David's enemies were ceased, finished and brought to an end”. David wrote how he continued “pursuing” his “adversaries” until such time as they were completely brought to an end.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we realize David was able to run after, catch and destroy his “enemies” until they were completely gone. We remember how King Saul and his men were attempting to kill David, but David was preserved and rescued. (See 1 Samuel 23 and 24) Jehovah God watched over and cared for David, and He desires to do the same for us. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for our sins and errors, and anyone who yields to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. Jehovah God gave David the ability and strength to “pursue” and defeat his foes, and He will do the same for us as we align with His perfect purpose and will.

Next time David says, “I have wounded them that they were not able to rise”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
