Dealing Treacherously Against the LORD - Hosea 5:7

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said of the nations of Ephraim, Israel and Judah, “They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he has withdrawn himself from them”, and in chapter five and verse seven of Hosea, Hosea said, “they have dealt treacherously against the LORD” where we read,

They have dealt treacherously against the LORD:

for they have begotten strange children: now shall a month devour them with their portions.

The verse begins, They have dealt treacherously against the LORD:” Hosea began with the words, “they have dealt treacherously” or “they, Ephraim, Israel and Judah, managed themselves in a deceitful, faithless and offensive manner” “against the LORD” which means “in opposition to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Hosea shared how “Ephraim, Israel and Judah” lived in a deceitful and offensive manner before Jehovah God.

The verse continues, for they have begotten strange children: now shall a month devour them with their portions.” Hosea added the words, “for they have begotten” or “because, since and on account that they, Ephraim, Israel and Judah, have birthed and brought forth” “strange children” which means “loathsome, alienated and foreign offspring and descendants”: “now shall a month devour them” or “at this time a new moon or lunar month will eat up and consume the offspring and descendants of Ephraim, Israel and Judah” “with their portions” which means “alongside their, the children of Ephraim, Israel and Judah's, part, share or territory”. Hosea shared how the people within Ephraim, Israel and Judah begot offspring who were alien and foreign and the “New moon” would devour them and their inheritance.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how the people within Ephraim, Israel and Judah were unfaithful and deceitful with Jehovah God because they birthed “children” who were alien and foreign to the ways of God. Now when the “New moon” arrived, they and their heritage would be consumed. This was not God's desire for them, but they forsook Him, and this was the result for doing so. God wants a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to live according to His ways so that neither we nor our offspring lose our inheritance with Him.

Next time Hosea says, “blow you the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
