In Psalms chapter eighteen David wrote, “you have girded me with strength unto the battle: you have subdued under me those that rose up against me. You have also given me the necks of my enemies”, and in chapter eighteen and verse forty-one of Psalms David said, “They cried, but there was none to save them” where we read,
They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.
The verse begins, “They cried, but there was none to save them:” David began with the words, “They cried” which means “they, David's enemies, shouted for help”, “but there was none” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover there existed not one person” “to save them” which means “to rescue, deliver and liberate them, David's enemies”. David said his enemies shouted for help, but no one was able to come to their rescue and deliver them.
The verse goes on to say, “even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.” David continued with the words, “even unto the LORD” or “also and indeed to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “but he answered them not” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover he, Jehovah God, did not respond, answer or speak to David's enemies”. David wrote how his enemies also shouted for help from Jehovah God, but He in no way responded to their cries.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover the desperation in David's enemies after he subdued and conquered them. These foes shouted for help, but no one was there. They cried out for Jehovah God, but He would not respond to them. God's offer of salvation through His Son Jesus is for people who are living now, and after we die, there is no further provision for His rescue. Every person will give an account before God according to their belief and trust in His Son Jesus, and those who refuse and reject Jesus will have no one to help them even though they cry out vociferously even unto God Himself. God desires to “save” and forgive people today even as the scripture says, “now is the day of salvation” (See 2 Corinthians 6:2), and we are wise to choose to serve Jesus at this time rather than being ignored by Him later even though we plea in desperation.
Next time David says, “Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
