In Psalms chapter eighteen David wrote about Jehovah God, “He delivers me from my enemies: yes, you lift me up above those that rise up against me: you have delivered me from the violent man”, and in chapter eighteen and verse forty-nine of Psalms David said, “Therefore will I give thanks unto you, O God” where we read,
Therefore will I give thanks unto you, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto your name.
The verse begins, “Therefore will I give thanks unto you, O LORD, ...” David began with the words, “Therefore will I give thanks” which means “wherefore, then and on this account I, David, shall confess, laud, revere and cast forth worship” “unto you, O LORD” or “to you, Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David said because Jehovah God provided him with deliverance from his “enemies” and “the violent man” to the point of ruling over them, he would offer to Him praise, honor and reverence.
The verse goes on to say, “... among the heathen, and sing praises unto your name.” David continued with the words, “among the heathen” or “in the midst of the non-Hebrew and pagan nations”, “and sing praises” which means “and make music with a musical instrument or his voice” “unto your name” or “to your, Jehovah God's, reputation, fame, glory and authority”. David wrote that he would give honor and praise to Jehovah God in the midst of pagan people, and he would make music unto His name as he praised Him.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David expressed his gratefulness for Jehovah God's provision of rescue, safety and deliverance from people who hated him. He proclaimed that he would “make music” with his voice and instruments in the midst of pagan people as an anthem to give glory and praise to God. God loves people to acknowledge and thank Him for His provision, and there is no greater provision for mankind than God sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay the penalty for their sins. Jesus shed His blood to bring redemption to people, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us eternal life so we may give Him thanks and praise for all eternity. Praise be unto God for His gifts unto men, and may all the world hear as we sing and give glory unto Him.
Next time David says, “Great deliverance gives he to his king”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
